St. Mary’s Ladle of Love is a long-term, robust ministry at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, spanning over 20 years. It began in 2004 as a soup kitchen serving a dinner meal every Wednesday to 70 or more individuals. The soup kitchen converted to a Food Pantry during the COVID-19 pandemic, and provides groceries 3 times each month. In 2024, it provided food to 671 different households (containing 2,267 individuals that include children, adults, and seniors). Some households come three times each month, others less frequently.

Currently, St. Mary’s Ladle of Love operates an equal opportunity Food Pantry that offers a variety of fresh, frozen, and canned products to those experiencing  food insecurities. The Ladle of Love is different from other pantries. With the assistance of Parish and community volunteers, guests are able to “shop” and select items, according to their tastes and needs. Guests often comment on their appreciation as to the selection of provisions, as well as the friendly atmosphere!

In addition to being a participating agency of the Food Bank of South Jersey, we are fortunate to receive generous donations from local businesses, such as Panera, Bagel Zone, Thistle, and Walmart, as well as other community organizations. .
