St. Mary’s Outreach Ministry
“To seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself.”
The Outreach Ministry group take the lead in various Outreach areas including overseeing recommendations for prioritizing outreach funds from the parish general budget and leading various outreach projects.
Funding is then either approved by the Vestry from budgeted funds or raised through fundraising efforts and donations. Each year we allocate funds to various local, regional and international recipients such as Episcopal Relief and Development (in support of disasters both in the United States and throughout the world, gifts that support local organizations such as the Library Company of Burlington, Colonial Burlington Foundation, the Opportunity League and others. We also have supported the Burlington County Animal Alliance, a volunteer animal adoption and rescue organization and our own Ladle of Love, a food pantry.
Here are some of the recent outreach efforts
Seaman’s Church Ditty Bags: In support of Seaman’s Church Institute we shopped, knitted, contributed, and organized “Ditty bags” for sailors who visit the Philadelphia port each year. A ditty bag is filled with hats, gloves, heavy socks, work gloves, sewing kits and various toiletries.
Christmas Outreach: Through generous donations from our parish family, we donated coats and mittens to students in Burlington City and toys to the Burlington County Sheriff’s Toy Drive.
Gravestone Cleaning project:
Have you noticed some gleaming white gravestones between the Old and New Church buildings? Since 2021 a DAR member and her spouse have been generously applying their restoration skills to our churchyard. St. Mary’s Outreach funds have underwritten special cleaning kits and our DAR representative has provided instruction to members of the parish and community to clean and restore gravestones in our Churchyard.
